Friendly islands Satellite Communications Ltd, more commonly known as Tongasat, has since its inception in 1988, been working to put into effect Tonga's bold vision of ensuring Tonga's place in the world of international satellite communications.

Tongasat enjoys a unique relationship with the Government of Tonga.   Through an "exclusive agent" agreement with the Government, Tongasat provides and is responsible for all regulatory, licensing and commercial activities relating to Tonga's satellite network filings.

Over the past 14 years or so, Tongasat has made a significant number of successful satellite network applications in various bands in a number of orbital positions around the globe.   All these applications have been formally submitted through our administration and in conformance with the regulations of the International Telecommunications Union, and we are pleased that many of these orbital positions have been and continue to be used by Tongasat's licensees.

In 2002, Tongasat was pleased to announce to the World that it had taken another step towards its vision of becoming a fully-fledged satellite operator through its successful acquisition of the ESIAFI-1 satellite, currently operating from our 70° E orbital position.

We are proud of our achievements in the world of satellite communications and we will continue to develop the range of services that we can offer our clients.
